Helena Rey
GEF-FARM Global child project manager
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)

Helena Rey has been working at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) since 2005 and currently serves as Project Manager at the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership. In this role, she is responsible for the overall management and delivery of the Global Environment Facility (GEF)–funded Financing Agrochemical Reduction and Management (FARM) Global Child Project, leading its strategic direction, implementation, and coordination across multiple countries and partners. Her work focuses on advancing sustainable agriculture, reducing risks from agrochemicals, and agricultural plastics, and mobilizing finance and partnerships to support safer, more sustainable food systems.

Previously, Helena worked in UNEP’s Consumption and Production Unit, where she played a key role in promoting circular economy principles and sustainable consumption and production, with a strong emphasis on food and tourism value chains. She also co-led the development of UNEP’s Sustainable Food Systems Strategy, contributing to global policy dialogue and programmatic approaches for transforming food systems.

With over two decades of professional experience, Helena has managed complex, multi-country projects and global initiatives across South America, Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and Central America, working closely with governments, international organizations, and the private sector. She holds a Master of Science in Environmental Management from England and a degree in Food Engineering from Brazil.
